Therapeutic Support Assistant
Are you passionate about nurturing children’s emotional well-being in a natural, outdoor setting? Huckleberries Nurture Farm CIC is at the forefront of supporting children’s emotional well-being through nature-based learning. We are currently seeking an enthusiastic Therapeutic Support Assistant to join our trauma-informed team.
Closing date: 12 noon on 8th March 2024
Position: Therapeutic Support Assistant (TSA)
Location: 1.5 miles outside Elstead, Godalming, Surrey. Note we are not on a public transport route.
Hours: Part-time, term-time only (36 weeks), 6.5 hours per day, two days per week, ideally Wednesday & Friday. The role is based outside in all weathers, all year round. Timesheets are required.
Salary: from £14.25ph to £17.09ph (pay scale range 6 to 7)
Holiday entitlement: Statutory
Start Date: 17 April 2024 plus 2 paid handover days in advance of Easter break
Responsibilities:
- Provide a nurturing and supportive environment for children aged 5 to 13 with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs
- Assist in delivering therapeutic sessions for small groups of up to 8 children or in 1:1 sessions, including activities such as animal care, nature-based learning, mindfulness, growing, yoga and emotional literacy.
- Support children with emotional needs to develop emotional agility, resilience, and social skills
- Work alongside the Nurture Group Leader and community volunteers to ensure sessions run smoothly and meet objectives
- Foster connections with nature, animals, and each other to help children develop a sense of belonging, generosity, mastery, self-control, self-confidence, responsibility and autonomy.
Requirements:
- Compassionate and empathetic, holding children in high regard
- Passionate about nurturing children’s emotional well-being
- Embrace the understanding that all behaviour is communication
- Innate love of nature and animals
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
- Enjoy working outdoors in all weather conditions
- Experience of working with children with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health or Special Educational Needs is desirable
